I have a bookmarks folder called “Pep talks and reminders”. It’s a library of things I’ve found on the internet that make me feel okay about being a human.
I’ve seen a few “self care” “master posts” recently (quote marks not used in mockery, but to acknowledge that when you’re using these terms you’re already talking to a specific, perhaps niche, audience). These are a truly great resource!
They are also very instructive and methodical.
Sometimes I feel the pressure to be more like a machine than a person: to be productive, to be logical. Only recently have I begun to come to terms with myself as a messy collection of feelings and viscera; I am often inclined to take step 5 before step 1, and want to find my own way there. I find storytelling more reassuring than bullet points, because I know there is another person behind a story, and I can read it and think “OH THANK GOD I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST ME!”
I am learning to celebrate my sensitivity. Here is a selection of the bookmarks in that folder. Because wisdom does not always announce itself, the lessons contained within don’t necessarily present themselves as lessons; many are heuristic. Perhaps you will find some solace here.
